Who We Are

We are a group of young people aged 11-25, actively engaged in representing young people’s views and opinions. Under the direction of Newport City Council, we are responsible for ensuring that young people have a say on issues that matter to them, helping to shape tomorrow for future generations. We do this in line with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and the local authority’s duty to engage with young people. Each area within Wales must facilitate a Youth Council to allow young people to influence local decision making, providing every young person with the platform to make positive change.

We believe young people can embrace who they are,
can define their future, and can change the world.

Our Values

Our values are the essence of the youth council's identity. They represent how we act, speak and behave together, and how we can engage with our stakeholders.

Putting sustainability at the heart of our organisation, we focus on areas where we can make the most significant positive contributions:

  • Healthy and Safety

  • Ethics

  • Green

  • Diversity and Inclusion

  • Community Investment
